Post Convention News!
By Governor Susan
If you were unable to attend the Pittsburgh PA District Convention, you missed a fabulous time in the "Burgh!
Thank you to all the hard working Convention Committee and the Pittsburgh area clubs that volunteered during the convention. Thank you to everyone that participated in the various community service projects:
- We surpassed our goal of 25 units of blood at our first District Convention Blood Drive with 26 + units collected. Everyone who tried to donate is to be admired!
- Thank you to everyone across the District that contributed items for the "Birthday Bags" that were donated to the Carnegie Boys and Girls Club. Our goal was 100 bags and we filled 210 bags and donated 5 boxes of assorted items (school notebooks, large coloring books, large sized craft kits, water color sets, extra markers, crayons and colored pencils, etc.) that were either too large for the bags or perfect for after school projects.
- The donation drive of Personal Care Products was also an overwhelming success! Over the 4 days (yes, we even received items on Sunday), over 10 computer sized boxes of items were collected with items ranging from soaps, shampoos and lotions to tooth brushes and tooth paste. Due to the volume of donations, items will be delivered to The Family Center, Women in Crisis and the VA Hospital! Everyone is to be congratulated on their generosity!
- Thank you from First Dude, John, and First Adopted Son, Ben, for the over 60+ donated Baskets for the Basket Room. Over $4600.00 was collected to benefit the PA Foundation. Thank you to everyone who donated and everyone who bought tickets and baskets.
We had a District Convention filled with fun, fellowship, educational forums and successful community service. Congratulations to Cathy Szymanski, Governor Designate and Bruce Eberly, Governor Elect Designate on their elections. Who could ask for more?
As Governor, I do have one final request - we, as a Kiwanis District, have to finish strong with our Growth Plan. There are 4 clubs that were started since April that need to be completed and there are at least 2 other sites that NEED Kiwanis in their communities. We can finish this year with positive growth and a wonderful start for the coming year if we work together to just get it done and keep the fire burning in Kiwanis!
