Pottsville is issuing a challenge

December 18, 2007 | Newsroom | Author: Neil Young

The Kiwanis Club of Pottsville is issuing a challenge to PA and nation Kiwanis Club to assist us in restoring the stolen championship of the 1925 Pottsville Maroon's NFL football team. ESPN Books recently published a book by David Fleming, an editor with ESPN magazine released on October 9, 2007, here in Pottsville with the author and his family doing a book signing tour. The reason for our clubs involvement is the owner of the Maroon's was a Kiwanian and a 1924 past president, the same year the Maroon's were granted membership into the NFL. Mr. Fleming and our local newspaper (www.republicanherald.com) have started a petition campaign that is to be given to the NFL and the NFL owner to reinstate the Pottsville Maroon's as the 1925 NFL Champion's. The website for Mr. Fleming petition is (www.petitiononline.com/Maroons). I ask that you release this challenge to as many Kiwanis as you can, and hopefully they will sign this petition for a past kiwanian, and for a small town that a championship won on the field, but was lost in a boardroom be returned.

Bill Pugh,
Pottsvill Kiwanis Club, President
