July - Fresh Air - a return to the country

posted on July 19, 2010 01:21 pm

Scott Arnold greeted the bus as it pulled into Derry Township Park. He was there as a Kiwanian, there to greet the young people coming to J-County from New York City for a taste of "fresh air". He handed out welcome bags to our young visitors which contained a towel, comb, tooth paste, tooth brush, a disposable camera, a memory book, games, and so many other donated items. Thanks, Scott! Thanks, Kiwanians!

Las Vegas still standing!

Bill and Kathy Nash, our esteemed colleagues, recently attended our International Kiwanis Convention where, of course, they had the best time ever. Even venturing to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and rafting on the Colorado! Such intrepid Kiwanians. They'll share their adventures with us at the September meeting! Can't wait to hear all about it.

"manning the Academy"

posted on July 19, 2010 01:18 pm

During the Sundays in July you'll find Juniata Kiwanians helping out our local historical society. Tuscarora Academy, a lovely little museum, nestled in quiet Academia is a haven for those who want to learn more about the county's history. Juniata Club is glad to be there to open the doors, greet the public, and enjoy a lovely Sunday afternoon helping out.

January 2010 - Jamaica Orphanage

posted on March 5, 2010 03:42 pm

Bill & Kathy Nash and Scott and Alice Arnold traveled to Jamaica to work at Westhaven Children's Home along with other Pa Kiwanis and Michigan Kiwanis friends. Bill and Kathy worked repairing clothing, and making pajamas, while Scott busied himself working on the new dormitory that's being built. Hopefully to be completed next year. Alice? She was just Alice. Helped Bill & Kathy, folded laundry, walked with the children. We all had a wonderful time. Westhaven is a Childrens Home near Montego Bay Jamaica. It is home to 83 handicapped young people. Their new house, when completed, will house 20 - 30 young people. This was Scott's fourth trip, and the second trip for Bill, Kathy, and Alice. Our Kiwanis friends from Lewistown recently joined us for our Jamaica presentation!
